TECHNOLOGY

Emergency dispatching requires that a practitioner be adept at handling a number of possible life threatening events. Critical and tactical training tools allow students to work at managing chaotic events in a stressful environment, all while maintaining self-composure and professionalism.

CTE Emergency Dispatcher incorporates the same call-handling simulation software used by public agencies to train in-house staff.

Typing speed and accuracy are key to becoming a successful emergency dispatcher. CTE Emergency Dispatcher employs the latest keyboarding skill development software.

CTE Emergency Dispatcher includes unlimited software training and support for school staff.

Having access to training technology used in everyday emergency communication environments will better prepare students to secure permanent employment.

Call-Handling Training Software

We have incorporated TactiCall call-handling training software by Biddle Consulting Group (BCG) into all MindFLEX CTE Emergency Dispatcher courses. BCG is a prominent human resources and technology company that specializes in pre-employment and post-employment analysis and evaluation for public agencies with emergency communications operations.

TactiCall Training Software for dispatchers focuses on two very important job domains that are critical to maintaining public safety:

  • SPEECH
  • >> Maintaining Voice Clarity
  • >> Using Proper Volume
  • >> Speaking at a Proper Pace
  • >> Selection of Appropriate Words
\
  • PROTOCOLS
  • >> Following Processes
  • >> Responding to Verbal Cues
  • >> Consistency in Application Instructions

TactiCall Dispatcher Training Software is:

Self-Administering. Requires no instructor oversight

Self-Scoring. Built-in voice recognition software listens for scored key words

Life-Like: Students hear callers and must respond appropriately

Keyboard Proficiency

Keyboarding growth and accuracy is essential to becoming a successful emergency dispatcher. Oftentimes, a dispatcher will be required to communicate with callers and responders, all while documenting occurrences via a keyboard so that information can be transmitted to all emergency service personnel involved with bringing the situation to a conclusion.

This form of multi-tasking is difficult especially in chaotic and high pressure situations. Successful dispatchers are able to use their ability to compartmentalize and stay on task. Calling upon their ability to key and speak is critical. It should be second nature and accuracy is important. We find that many human resource personnel tasked with hiring identify this ability as one of the most important when deciding on which candidates should be hired.

CTE Emergency Dispatcher introduces students to keyboarding on day one and requires that all students achieve a speed of 45 words per minute with no less than 95 percent accuracy. Then we proceed to advance the student to multi-task keyboarding with call handling simulation. The result is a student who is proficient at keyboarding while communicating within a 'real-world' environment.

San Diego will give emergency dispatchers 26.6 percent pay raises over the next three years to avert a staffing crisis that’s slowed responses to emergency calls and prompted public outrage. - The San Diego Union Tribune (June 2016)

Through a rigorous curriculum content, students are exposed to an innovative suite of training tools, creating a high-tempo learning environment that readies each student for the fast-paced career of an emergency dispatcher.
